Bring a suitcase. Save a LIFE!

Not Just Tourists was founded with the purpose of getting medical supplies to those who can’t afford them. Ordinary tourists are given the means to change the lives of the locals they visit. After seeing first-hand the serious lack of medical supplies in Cuba in 1990, Dr. Ken Taylor and his wife Denise—from St. Catharines, Ontario—started taking medical supplies to remote areas in Cuba. Soon others who were traveling to Cuba began approaching them to take medical supplies too, and the Not Just Tourists phenomenon started.

Since it’s inception 25 years ago, it has spread with chapters across Canada and over 10,000 suitcases delivered to 82 countries.” (quoted from their website)

You’re going on vacation. Rather than bring 16 pairs of shorts or 7 pairs of shoes you’re not going to wear, pack light and use your luggage allowance to bring medical supplies to people who really need it.  On a family vacation to Cuba, we shared suitcases for personal items and took 2 cases of medical supplies to a clinic in Havana. It’s EASY and feels good to give something back.

Not just tourists medical supplies

Sue and I delivered a suitcase of medical supplies to a clinic near Harare in Zimbabwe. The doctor was SO excited to receive it. I was close to tears when she told me how they improvised when they don’t have what we think are basic supplies.

Most airlines have a humanitarian policy and will often waive luggage fees. British Airways waived the fee for me when carrying a case to Zimbabwe.  All you have to do is ASK.  NJT will provide you with the paper work.
